I just want to share a short experience. This last week, a member family that has been recently reactivated showed that they truly have the love of God in them. As we were meeting together with an investigator of ours that is going through a tough time, they comforted him and offered help in a way that we as missionaries cannot help. Again this Sunday, they brought a friend to church and continue to be friends to recent converts and less active members that are also finding their way to the gospel. I was very impressed by their sacrifice and their willingness to serve those in need.
Charity is so important. I recently read in Luke 10 about the good Samaritan. As I studied this story, I saw that the question that mattered was not “who is my neighbor?” but “who was the neighbor of the man in need?” We are filled with the perfect love of Christ when we serve those that are in need and show them mercy. This perfect love casts fear out. As it says in D&C 88:125, “And above all things, clothe yourselves with the bond of charity, as with a mantle”. I know that as we are charitable to those around us, we are protected like a winter coat will protect you against the wind and snow. I pray that we will be bold and show mercy to those that are in need.
